Demon
Supercharger

The 2018 Demon and the 2023 Demon 170 both run the IHI 2.7L twin-screw supercharger. Here's how it compares to the 2.4L, and the two paths FAS builds for it — 2.7L IHI rebuild and the Dominator 2.7L package.

The IHI 2.7L — What the Demon and Demon 170 Run

The IHI twin-screw 2.7L supercharger is found in the Dodge Demon (2018), the Dodge Demon 170 (2023), and the SRT High-Output Hellcat Redeye — the same 2.7L platform that also runs on Super Stock and the RAM 1500 TRX. It's physically larger than the 2.4L that powers the standard Hellcat, so it moves more air at the same rotor speed, which is why the factory chose it for the higher-output cars.

The Demon made 840 hp stock. The Demon 170 made 1,025 hp on E85. The 2.7L is the platform FAS builds for 1,000+ WHP runs on the factory blower.

That same capability means more stress on internal components. The IHI bearings, seals, and rotors run harder than the standard Hellcat unit — especially on modified builds with aggressive pulley ratios. FAS Motorsports has rebuilt IHI 2.7L units across all three generations: the 2018 Demon, the Redeye H.O., and the 2023 Demon 170.

2.7L IHI Platforms

  • ▸ Dodge Demon (2018) — 840 hp stock
  • ▸ Dodge Demon 170 (2023) — 1,025 hp on E85
  • ▸ SRT Hellcat Redeye High-Output
  • ▸ Super Stock
  • ▸ RAM 1500 TRX

Rebuild vs. Replace

FAS will tell you which path makes sense after inspection. We won't charge you for a rebuild if the unit needs replacement. Call before shipping if you're not sure what you have.

Platform Comparison

2.7L Demon Supercharger vs. 2.4L Hellcat

The 2.4 and 2.7 refer to displacement — how much air the rotor pack moves per revolution. The 2.7L IHI is physically larger and moves more air at the same rotor speed, which is why it's the factory choice for the higher-output cars. More displacement means it can support more power with less rotor speed, which generally means less heat for a given boost target.

A properly ported stock 2.4L on a dialed tune typically supports 800–850 wheel horsepower. That covers the overwhelming majority of street and street/strip builds. A ported 2.7L has meaningfully more room above that, which is exactly why it lives on the Redeye, Demon, and TRX — the platform that gets to 4-digit wheel horsepower without running the blower at the ragged edge.

These are general ranges for supporting builds — actual results depend on fuel, tune, pulley combination, supporting mods, and conditions. Treat them as planning guidance, not a guarantee.

If You Have a 2.7L (Redeye / Demon / TRX)

You already own the bigger blower, so the move is to unlock it — a Dominator 2.7L race-porting package and a billet snout extract the airflow the factory casting restricts, with headroom well above what a 2.4L can safely reach.

Two Paths for the 2.7L

2.7L IHI Rebuild & the Dominator 2.7L Package

2.7L IHI Supercharger Rebuild

Ship in your factory 2.7L — FAS handles full disassembly and inspection, rotor pack clearance check and cleaning, bearing replacement, seal replacement, discharge and inlet port cleanup, housing inspection, reassembly to spec, and flow-bench verification before ship-back. Turnaround is 3–5 business days.

FAS Dominator 2.7L Package

For owners who already have the 2.7L case and want to unlock it: the Dominator 2.7L race-porting package pairs a ported rotor pack with a billet snout to extract the airflow the factory casting restricts, with headroom well above what a 2.4L can safely reach. It's the platform for a 4-digit whp goal built around the blower you already own.

Ask about IHI discharge porting as an add-on when your 2.7L is already apart for rebuild.

Demon Supercharger — Common Questions

What supercharger does the Dodge Demon have?

The 2018 Dodge Demon and the 2023 Demon 170 both run the IHI twin-screw 2.7L supercharger — the same 2.7L platform used on the SRT Hellcat Redeye High-Output, Super Stock, and RAM 1500 TRX. The 2.7L is physically larger than the 2.4L that powers the standard Hellcat, so it moves more air at the same rotor speed. The Demon made 840 hp stock; the Demon 170 made 1,025 hp on E85.

Is the Demon 170 supercharger different from the 2018 Demon’s?

Both run the same IHI 2.7L twin-screw architecture. FAS Motorsports rebuilds the IHI 2.7L across all three generations it appears in — the 2018 Demon, the Redeye High-Output, and the 2023 Demon 170 — using the same disassembly, clearance-check, and flow-bench process for each.

What’s the difference between the Demon’s 2.7L supercharger and the Hellcat’s 2.4L?

The 2.4 and 2.7 refer to displacement — how much air the rotor pack moves per revolution. The 2.7L IHI is physically larger and moves more air at the same rotor speed, which is why it’s the factory choice on the higher-output cars. A properly ported stock 2.4L on a dialed tune typically supports 800–850 wheel horsepower; a ported 2.7L has meaningfully more room above that, which is exactly why it lives on the Redeye, Demon, and TRX. The 2.7L is the platform for builds chasing 1,000+ WHP on the factory blower. These are general ranges — actual results depend on fuel, tune, pulley combination, supporting mods, and conditions.

When does a Demon’s IHI 2.7L supercharger need to be rebuilt?

Rebuild indicators: bearing noise (whine or grinding at idle or under boost), boost creep or pressure loss without tune changes, rotor-to-housing contact (metallic sounds under boost), or any blower that has had coolant or oil contamination. On high-power builds running aggressive pulley ratios, proactive rebuilds at 40,000–60,000 miles are common practice. The IHI bearings, seals, and rotors run harder than the standard Hellcat unit, especially on modified builds.

Is there a Demon supercharger for sale, or do I need to rebuild mine?

FAS doesn’t list a standalone new 2.7L IHI supercharger for sale. The two paths customers use are the 2.7L IHI rebuild service — ship in your factory unit and get it disassembled, inspected, rebuilt, and flow-bench verified — and the Dominator 2.7L race-porting package, which pairs a ported rotor pack with a billet snout to extract airflow the factory casting restricts. Call FAS to talk through which path fits a stock Demon, a swap, or a core exchange.

What does the FAS 2.7L IHI rebuild for a Demon supercharger include?

Full disassembly, inspection, rotor pack cleaning and clearance check, bearing replacement, seal replacement, discharge and inlet port cleanup, housing inspection for wear or scoring, reassembly, and flow-bench verification before ship-back. It’s a ship-in service — pull the supercharger, ship it to FAS at 6161 Riverside Dr, Punta Gorda, FL 33982, and it comes back rebuilt in 3–5 business days.
