Model-Year Coverage

Mustang GT Cold Air Intake — 2019, 2022, 2024

The Ford Mustang GT uses the 5.0L Coyote V8 across the S550 and S650 chassis generations. Cold air intake fitment and calibration requirements vary by model year. Use the sections below to identify the correct information for your specific car.

Gen 6 (S550)

2019–2020

5.0L Coyote V8

Factory air box is a documented restriction above 400 whp. High-flow cold air intake adds measurable airflow on stock and lightly modified engines. Required for most blower and power adder builds.

Gen 6 (S550 MY22+)

2022–2023

5.0L Coyote Gen 4 V8

Updated Gen 4 Coyote responds well to reduced intake restriction. Pair the cold air intake with a tune-file update when building on this engine. FAS coordinates remote calibration support with an outside tuner when required.

Gen 7 (S650)

2024–2025

5.0L Coyote Gen 4 V8

New S650 chassis retains the Gen 4 Coyote. Intake fitment notes vary by kit — confirm application fitment before ordering. FAS can advise on kit selection and installation.

Buyer Guide

What to Know Before Buying a Cold Air Intake for Your Mustang GT

Airflow & Restriction

The factory Mustang GT air box prioritises low noise over peak flow. A properly designed cold air intake routes colder, denser air from outside the engine bay and reduces restriction through a higher-flow filter media — both factors contribute to improved volumetric efficiency on the 5.0L Coyote.

Installation & Fitment

Most bolt-on cold air intakes for the Mustang GT are direct replacements for the factory air box and snorkel. Installation is typically 30–60 minutes. FAS Motorsports installs intakes as standalone work or as part of a larger power build at our Punta Gorda, FL shop.

Calibration Notes

On a lightly modified Mustang GT, a cold air intake alone typically requires only a MAF recalibration or a tune revision. On boosted and power-adder builds, a full calibration revision is recommended. FAS coordinates remote calibration support with the appropriate outside tuner when required — calibration is not performed in-house.

Cold Air vs. Short Ram

A true cold air intake positions the filter below the hood line or behind the bumper, away from engine heat. A short ram intake relocates the filter to a higher-flow position inside the engine bay but draws warmer air. For the Mustang GT, a cold air design is preferred for sustained power gains across all ambient conditions.

Mustang GT Cold Air Intake — FAQ

What is the best cold air intake for a Mustang GT?

The best cold air intake for a Mustang GT depends on your power goals and supporting modifications. For a street-driven 5.0L Coyote, a properly designed high-flow cold air intake with a sealed, heat-shielded filter enclosure is the standard recommendation. FAS Motorsports can advise on kit selection for your specific model year and build level — contact us with your year, mileage, and current modifications.

Does a cold air intake work on a 2024 Mustang GT?

Yes. The 2024–2025 Mustang GT (S650 generation) runs the Gen 4 5.0L Coyote V8. Cold air intake kits compatible with this chassis are available from several manufacturers. Confirm exact fitment for your model year before ordering. FAS Motorsports stocks and installs cold air intakes for the S650 platform at our Punta Gorda, FL shop.

Will a cold air intake require a tune on my 2022 Mustang GT?

On a stock or lightly modified 2022–2023 Mustang GT, some kits are designed to work with the factory MAF calibration, while others benefit from a tune revision to account for changes in airflow characteristics. For any modified or power-adder build, a full calibration revision is recommended. FAS coordinates remote calibration support with an outside tuner when required.

How much power does a cold air intake add to a Mustang GT?

A cold air intake alone on a naturally aspirated 5.0L Mustang GT typically yields modest airflow improvements that contribute to the overall build. Results depend on the kit design, supporting modifications, and whether a calibration revision is performed. FAS does not claim specific wheel horsepower numbers for individual intake installations — build results depend on the full combination.

Does FAS Motorsports install cold air intakes on Mustang GTs?

Yes. FAS Motorsports installs cold air intakes on Ford Mustang GT vehicles (2019, 2022, 2024, and other model years) at our Punta Gorda, FL shop. Intakes can be installed as standalone work or as part of a larger power build. Contact us to discuss kit selection and schedule installation.

What model years of Mustang GT does the cold air intake fit?

FAS works on Mustang GT S550 (2015–2023) and S650 (2024–2025) platforms. Specific kit fitment varies by manufacturer and chassis generation. Confirm your model year when ordering or contacting us — fitment notes for 2019, 2022, and 2024 are detailed on this page.
