How to Ship Your Supercharger to FAS Motorsports (The Right Way)
Sending your supercharger off for a rebuild or porting job is exciting — but only if it gets here intact. We see packages arrive at FAS Motorsports every week, and the difference between a smooth drop-off and a damaged unit almost always comes down to prep and packaging.
This guide walks you through exactly what to do before you box it up, how to pack it correctly, which carriers to use, what to include in the box, and what to expect once it arrives at our shop in Punta Gorda, FL.
Step 1: Pull the Supercharger From the Vehicle
Before anything goes in a box, the unit needs to be properly removed. A few reminders:
- Drain all oil from the supercharger before shipping. Most units hold oil in the snout/coupler area. Tip the unit and let it drain completely — oil-saturated packaging soaks through and can flag the shipment as hazmat.
- Remove the inlet/outlet plates or manifold if they’re still attached. Ship the core unit only unless we’ve specifically asked for the intake manifold.
- Cap all ports. Tape, foam plugs, or plastic caps over every open port (inlet, outlet, oil ports). This keeps debris out and prevents internal contamination during transit.
- Take photos of the unit before boxing — condition, any visible wear, coupler, snout. If damage occurs in transit, you’ll need documentation for a carrier claim.
Step 2: Choose the Right Box
Do not reuse a flimsy shipping box. Superchargers are dense, heavy, and awkward — they will destroy a thin-wall box in transit.
What to use:
- Double-walled corrugated cardboard, rated for the weight of your unit (most are 15–25 lbs depending on model)
- A box with at least 3 inches of clearance on every side for padding
- If you’re shipping a complete assembly with manifold, size up to a heavy-duty box or use a small crate

Step 3: Pack It Properly
This is where most DIY shippers go wrong. A supercharger sitting loose in a box — even with some packing peanuts — will shift in transit. At 20+ lbs with a metal housing, that’s enough to crack corners, damage the snout, or bend ports.
What works:
- 2" foam padding on all six sides, cut to fit
- Anti-static bubble wrap around the unit for a first layer before foam
- Rigid blocking (foam board, cardboard inserts) to prevent any lateral movement
- Packing peanuts are NOT sufficient as a sole cushion for a unit this heavy — use them only as supplemental fill after foam is in place
What to avoid:
- Newspaper (compresses and provides no cushion)
- Towels or rags (shift in transit)
- A single layer of bubble wrap with no hard cushion
