IHI 2.4L Supercharger Service — Porting, Rebuild & Bearing Replacement
FAS Motorsports ports, rebuilds, and performs bearing service on IHI 2.4L twin-screw superchargers for all LX and LC platform applications. We receive units nationwide from our facility in Punta Gorda, FL.

Supercharger Specifications
- Type: Twin-screw positive-displacement (roots-type)
- Displacement: 2.4 liters
- Rotor design: Male/female helical twin-screw
- Drive: Belt-driven via crankshaft pulley
- Factory boost (6.2L Hellcat): ~11.6 psi
- Factory output (Hellcat): 707 crank hp / approximately 600–630 whp at the wheels
- Common aftermarket pulley sizes: 2.65", 2.75", 3.00" (smaller diameter = more boost)
Services
- Snout porting — inlet port shaping, casting flash removal, and throat opening in the snout casting. The most common standalone service on IHI units.
- Full inlet porting — snout port plus discharge port work. Standard before any significant pulley reduction.
- Snout bearing replacement — standard on every rebuild. Resolves RPM-tracking whine caused by worn front bearings.
- Front seal replacement — performed with bearing service as standard.
- Full rebuild — complete teardown, rotor inspection, tip clearance check, all bearing and seal replacement, port work, reassembly to spec, rotation verification before shipping.
What Porting Does
The IHI 2.4L leaves the factory with conservative port geometry — tooling marks, casting flash, and a restricted inlet throat that limit airflow under high RPM and boost demand. Hand-porting removes those restrictions by shaping the inlet passages, opening the port throat, and smoothing transitions in the snout casting.
Lower pumping losses and improved volumetric efficiency translate to better boost response, lower discharge temperatures, and measurable power gains at the same pulley ratio. Snout porting alone produces gains on otherwise stock Hellcats — particularly in the mid-range. Full inlet porting compounds the effect and is standard practice before a pulley reduction.
When to Send Your Unit
- Running a 2.65" or 2.75" pulley — porting before the swap keeps discharge temps lower under increased air demand
- Whine that tracks with engine RPM, not belt speed — snout bearing failure
- Engine build in progress — sort the blower while everything is already apart
- Supporting mods already installed (heads, cam, headers) and the blower needs to keep pace
- High-mileage unit (80,000+ miles on original bearings)
